Calaway Engineering created a fully featured, CMX style editor, based on the the new IBM-PC.

The CED/SCED line of editors were very reasonably prices, and brought "high-end" editing within the reach of those with much smaller budgets.

When first released, the Calaway editors used CMX compatible I2's for machine control, but soon offered direct control of both Sony and Ampex VTR's.

The Codewriter II

The Codewriter II, III, and IV were a line of PC based, CMX style editors.

The Codewriter II was priced at: $7,995

Data Services, became M & R Data Services, and eventually Editing Technologies, (ETC, Inc.)

Edit Master was first released using the V-LAN control network from Videomedia. It then moved over to the CVNet control network engineered by CV Technologies, a division of Comprehensive Video.
The ultimate version could be configured from cuts-only to A/B/C/D-roll, with full switcher control, switcher memories, GPI triggers, dynamic motion control, live switching of iso tapes, list management and cleaning, and much more.

A cuts-only version called Cutter with a simplified interface was also available, and a Macintosh direct-control version of Cutter is still available from McQ Software Systems.

The Edit Master team included hardware engineers Chris Chaleki and Ted Williams, founder and software engineer Lon McQuillin, and product manager Frank Taylor, among others.
